    Some of the world's most advanced AI systems struggle to tell the time, an Edinburgh study says. AI models can perform complex tasks such as writing essays and generating art - but they have yet to master some skills that humans carry out with ease, researchers say. A team from the University of Edinburgh has shown that state-of-the-art AI models are unable to reliably interpret clock-hand positions or correctly answer questions about dates on calendars.

    Prisoners have been pictured leaving jail in Edinburgh on Tuesday as an early prison release scheme starts. Convicts were seen leaving HMP Edinburgh - on the day up to 390 across Scotland were released early to curb overcrowding. One told SWNS he was "Gonna go sort my life out". Ian Gard, who was serving a two year sentence for assault and robbery, was pictured leaving Saughton three weeks earlier than he was due to.

    A Scottish woman says a massive tree blown over in a storm is still leaning against her house - and could crash into it at any moment. Chiara Maccagnana-Regan, 29, lives next to the huge fir tree which towers over her property. She says she heard scraping and crashing during Storm Eowyn before police warned her she may need to evacuate. The tree had been blown over knocking tiles from her roof and ripping up parts of the pavement.
