DiscussionThis systematic review included 19 studies that examined the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on food security in households with children. Most studies that compared prevalence of food insecurity before and during the COVID-19 pandemic found that food insecurity increased in households with children. A high proportion of participants reported job and income losses due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

AbstractThe IUCN Red List of Threatened Species assigns species to discrete categories based on a common set of criteria to capture relative extinction risk. Some quantitative analyses require a continuous probability of extinction not provided by discrete categories. Furthermore, the criteria may not translate to extinction risk in a universal way across species, because some species' attributes are not incorporated into the criteria.

ResultsSemistructured interviews were carried out with 11 of the 12 participants who had completed the OnTrack programme. The participant not included finished participation the week lockdown started in the UK and could not be contacted. Non-participant observations were carried out for seven sessions, and these included ‘on-boarding’, check-in sessions with different focuses, and a halfway review.

A joint report published today reveals the huge scale of poor mental health in workless young people and calls for urgent support funding for the not in employment, education or training (NEET) population. The findings from a survey undertaken by The Employment Related Services Association (ERSA) and Education Development Trust (EDT) overwhelmingly cite mental health issues as the largest single barrier preventing people aged 16 to 24 accessing employment, education, or training.

In this article, Elizabeth Taylor and Jack Farnhill-Bain explore the missed opportunity to reach 485,000 able young people in the Spring Budget’s Back to Work proposals and debate how best to support NEET young people outside of the Jobcentre Plus ecosystem. The Budget’s recognition of the role that economically inactive people could play in rebuilding the economy, and the measures set out to encourage greater numbers of them into work, makes sense.
