The Columbia Heights City Council, at the April 28 meeting, unanimously approved a contract for the 2025 concrete alley construction project to Equity Builders of Rosemount. The project involves six alleys across the city, and five bids were read aloud at the April 23 meeting, City Engineer Kevin Hansen wrote in the agenda packet. The low bid, from Equity Builders, is about $1.072 million, 15% lower than the engineer’s estimate.

The Blaine City Council voted 5-2 to deny a conditional use permit for a detached accessory dwelling unit at the home of Alex and Lynda Pepin in a single family residential zoning district. Pepin had sought to build a unit to house struggling families, as well as provide an affordable solution for aging families and children, per Assistant Community Development Director Sheila Sellman's staff report.
