A pair of State College Area High School swimmers collected coveted hardware this weekend at the PIAA Swimming and Diving Championships at Bucknell University's Kinney Natatorium as Molly Workman and Sam Huggins were crowned state champions. On Saturday afternoon, Workman stamped a new PIAA record in the 100 freestyle in 48.85 seconds to claim the Class 3A state crown. On Friday, the junior etched a new State High record in the 50 freestyle by completing the event in 22.44 to also claim gold.

Of all the memories Misty Dickson accumulated throughout her years as a hockey mother to her son Kaleb Barth, she settles on one from the Laurel Mountain Hockey League high school championships in 2019 that pitted Kaleb’s State College Little Lions against Central Cambria. Dickson was among the contingent of State College hockey supporters who packed Pegula Ice Arena to support the Little Lions that spring day.

The high school wrestling season ends next weekend in Hershey. On Saturday, six Centre County wrestlers came away with PIAA regional crowns with eight others joining them for the trip to Chocolatetown. Bald Eagle Area, Penns Valley and Philipsburg-Osceola all competed in the Class 2A Southwest Regional in Altoona. State College and Bellefonte traveled to Canon-McMillan High School in Canonsburg for the newly formed Class 3A Western Regional.
