The numbers from Northwest Seaport Alliance say volumes so far this year across the region are actually up compared to last year. In March, it was an 18% increase, partially attributed, port officials say to companies getting ready for tariffs from the Trump administration.

    Democrat Emily Randall is new to Congress. She is in her freshman year representing Washington’s 6th Congressional District, which covers much of Tacoma, Kitsap County and the Olympic Peninsula. Even though Democrats are in the minority in D.C. for the moment, Randall said her party is not without power. “The tools that we have to hold our government accountable are regular, everyday people,” Randall said.

    The number of detainees at the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Processing Center in Tacoma has nearly doubled since November. That's according to Washington U.S. Rep. Seattle Symphony’s incoming music director, Xian Zhang, will conduct three performances that will take the audience on a tour of the solar system with Gustov Holst's The Planets. With Billy Child's "Diaspora" opening the performance, audiences will have the opportunity to experience an instrument not often heard on the classical stage: the saxophone.
