Several of the top 100 billionaires in the U.S. have ties to New York state, according to Forbes' recently released 2025 World's Billionaires List. This year's billionaires class consists of over 3,000 entrepreneurs, investors and heirs with a collective net worth of $16.1 trillion, which is almost $2 trillion more than 2024's list, Forbes says. The U.S. has the most with 902 billionaires, followed by China with 516 and India with 205.

More than 4 million New Yorkers rely on over $7 billion in Social Security benefits each month, but Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer says access to these benefits could become more challenging if the Trump administration's proposed cuts become a reality. "Elon Musk might not understand how a senior citizen depends on Social Security payments to buy food and pay rent, but New Yorkers do," Schumer said Wednesday.

Four former Big Lots locations in New York are being acquired by two retailers as the discount retailer continues to navigate the bankruptcy process. Ollie's Bargain Outlet and Ocean State Job Lot are picking up two stores apiece after asset liquidation firm Gordon Brothers Retail Partners began offering more than 600 Big Lots leases for sale nationwide. All offers for individual and multiple location purchases were due no later than Feb. 17, according to the Boston-based firm, USA TODAY reported.
