Anyone who follows sport will know what the dreaded phase "ACL tear" means. ACL is short for "anterior cruciate ligament", which is a key stabilising ligament that runs diagonally through the knee. When an athlete "does their ACL" it often means at least a year on the sidelines, or may even end an athlete's sporting career. High-profile sufferers of late include Matilda's star Sam Kerr who had surgery on her injured ACL in January, which dashed her dream of playing for Australia at Paris 2024.

In January, Elise Stapleton underwent a routine surgery to treat endometriosis, which she had suffered for years. During the procedure, doctors made an alarming discovery: the 36-year-old Melbourne woman had a 2.2-centimetre tumour in her bowel. Doctors made the decision there and then to remove what they could of the cancerous growth. Stapleton said she was in "complete and utter shock" when she awoke after surgery to be told had bowel cancer.

Identical twins Gillianne Gogas and Nicole Patrikakos were born together — and now the sisters have given birth together in mind-bogging synchronicity. The 36-year-old-sisters both gave birth on the same day in the same hospital, the Epworth Freemasons in east Melbourne. Gillianne said they both felt a mix of emotions over their matching maternity experience. "The timing, you just can't plan something like that. So yeah, disbelief, shock, excitement, all of those emotions," Gillianne told 9News.
