Thousands of people have lined the streets of Glastonbury to watch its annual carnival. Around 50 carts took part in the historic procession through the town on Saturday night. The carnival is the last of the year for the Somerset circuit, coming just eight days after Weston Carnival. As part of the carnival, a group of DJ's celebrated the 376 bus route between Glastonbury and Bristol by performing on one of its buses.

Thousands of would-be festival-goers joined an online queue at 09:00 GMT, and all of the tickets had sold by 9:35 GMT. Business owners have said measures to stop street drinking in Salisbury are working to reduce the levels of anti-social behaviour. A Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) was introduced by Wiltshire Council earlier this year and 13 on-the-spot Fixed Penalty Notices of £100 have been issued to people drinking in the street. The PSPO means a police officer can approach people drinking in the city centre and ask them to stop and surrender anything carrying alcohol.

Safari park plans to bring hippos back

A safari park has said it wants to re-introduce hippos and become a "key part" of the European breeding programme for the species. Longleat Estate used to have two hippos, Sonia and Spot, who were popular with visitors. However, they died in 2023 and January, respectively, after almost 50 years of living in Wiltshire. It hopes to bring the animals back by next summer and has submitted plans for a new hippo house and improvements to the grazing paddock and Half Mile Pond.
