Episcopal Relief & Development is offering technical support to partners in California that are being affected by the devastating and fast-growing Palisades, Woodley, Eaton and Hurst fires. Emergency responders are currently working to contain the 100 mph wind-fueled fires that are consuming the dry land. At least five people have died and around 130,000 people have had to evacuate their homes. Places of worship, businesses and other buildings have been heavily damaged.

Episcopal Relief & Development has partnered with well-known author Jerusalem Jackson Greer to write daily meditations in celebration of our common life. The meditations will be available in English and Spanish beginning on Ash Wednesday and throughout the 2025 Lenten season. Titling the meditations “A Commonplace Lent,” Greer celebrates the everyday human experience–prayer, worship, grace, love, community and service as well as our relationship to nature.

Episcopal Relief & Development is working with the Episcopal Church of Cuba to respond to Hurricane Oscar, and the mid-October power grid failure that continues to impact the entire island. On October 18, following weeks of intermittent grid outages, ten million people lost power. On October 20, during the blackout, Hurricane Oscar made landfall, flooding and damaging the island’s eastern side, and killing seven people.
