CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - A fugitive from New York state was arrested Wednesday in Kanawha County, the U.S. Marshal’s Service said. John B. Gokey, 30, of Rochester, New York, was wanted in Monroe County, New York, for strangulation, criminal contempt, and a probation violation. Kanawha County Sheriff’s deputies with the CUFFED Task Force found Gokey staying at a hotel in downtown Charleston, according to the U.S. Marshals Service. Gokey was arrested around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - Some viewers in our region are capturing some amazing photos of the Northern Lights on this Friday night. Chief meteorologist Tony Cavalier said Friday and Saturday nights will be the best times to see the aurora borealis -- typically visible from only the far northern latitudes. He said one of the strongest solar flares from the sun’s surface is responsible for the atmospheric show.

HUNTINGTON/CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - For several days, we have been reporting about an ever-growing list of tornadoes confirmed by the National Weather Service from the April 2 severe weather event throughout the Tri-State. NWS investigators are still doing survey work throughout our coverage area of West Virginia, Kentucky and Ohio to determine if damage was from straight line or circular winds (tornadic). As of Friday, April 12, the NWS had confirmed 17 twisters in our region.

We had crews stationed from Charleston to Ashland, Kentucky, and places in between as the eclipse reached its peak just before 3:15 p.m. Monday.

FAYETTE COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A man who had been on the run for nearly two years in connection with a deadly DUI-related crash in Indiana that killed one person and injured several others was arrested Monday night in Gauley Bridge, West Virginia. The U.S. Marshals Service said Glen Franklin Dent, 59, of Muncie, Indiana, was taken into custody around 7:45 p.m. Monday.
