Hundreds marched in parades across the Treasure Coast Monday, honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.In Fort Pierce, the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Parade went from Avenue I to Quincy Avenue on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Bonita Williams, a member of the MLK Jr. Committee, said 37 schools and about 25 floats participated, along with some marching units.

Hurricane Milton ravaged Central Florida as a Category 3 storm, then moved across the state, destroying homes, causing floods and spawning tornadoes. Hurricane season is coming to a close. Three hurricanes made landfall in Florida during the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season, which runs June 1 to Nov. 30, with the busiest months between August and October. Hurricane Debby made landfall near Steinhatchee, Florida, about 7 a.m. Aug. 5, 2024, as a Category 1 storm.

Flash floods, torrential rain, tropical tornadoes: All examples of the wrath of Hurricane Milton. And that was hours before landfall. At 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, Hurricane Milton made landfall near Siesta Key, Florida, as a powerful Category 3 hurricane with estimated wind speeds of 120 mph. The storm had battered the West Coast of Florida with howling winds, pounding rain and storm surge.
