PENNSYLVANIA — Two Pennsylvania cities were among the top 25 of the nation's best places to retire among the 950 localities Forbes has compared on how well the meet the needs of older Americans. Bethlehem ranked third and Pittsburgh placed 15th. The cost of housing was the primary factor in determining the ranking, Forbes said, citing National Association of Realtors data showing that since 2020, the median price of single-family homes nationwide has jumped 50 percent to $404,000.
Health Department Closes Suburban Pittsburgh Eatery

PITTSBURGH, PA — The Allegheny County Health Department has ordered the closure of Armstrong's Express on Washington Avenue in Bridgeville because of an imminent health hazard. A May 10 inspection revealed an active sewage leak present in the basement of the building. The inspector observed wastewater flowing from the basement’s wastewater system while flushing toilets, running the bathroom hand sink, and when the two-compartment sink was running.
Allegheny General Hospital Getting $43 Million Upgrade

PITTSBURGH, PA — Allegheny General Hospital's emergency department will be renovated and expanded in a $43 million upgrade, the Allegheny Health Network announced Tuesday. The multi-phased, 36,000-square-foot project is slated for completion by the end of 2027. Hospital officials contend the new state-of-the-art emergency department will better enable the medical center to better service the more than 40,000 people annually who are treated there.

PENNSYLVANIA — Rite Aid is closing 68 more locations in seven states as it maneuvers through its second bankruptcy, with the majority of the closures occurring in Pennsylvania. U.S. Bankruptcy Court documents filed Friday indicate 44 Rite Aid stores in the state will be shuttered. The company, which currently operates 1,240 stores across 15 states, announced on May 5 it had begun bankruptcy proceedings and would start to close and sell its stores.

Penn State Branch Campuses Slated For Closure Identified

PENNSYLVANIA — Penn State officials say a final decision has yet to be made on which of its branch campuses will be closing, but they did not deny a report Monday that university president Neeli Bendapudi is recommending shuttering seven of them. The university released a statement late Monday saying that Bendapudi will meet with university trustees in an executive session Thursday to discuss the closure plan and that more information will be released following that meeting.
Pittsburgh Interior Designer Took Customers For Thousands: PA AG

PITTSBURGH, PA — Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday has filed a lawsuit against a Pittsburgh interior design firm for allegedly failing to provide goods and complete projects that were paid for in advance. The lawsuit was filed Friday in Allegheny County Common Pleas Court against Black Cherry Design and its owner, Lauren Piasecki, who is facing related criminal charges as well. It seeks $190,000 in restitution for the company's customers.
