Journalists develop a certain level of hypervigilance after chronicling their communities' worst days. It's not a particularly healthy trait to always be on alert for the potential threats around me. I check the weather radar, just in case, before going on long runs or taking my kids out for a bike ride. I give a wide berth to any vehicle that I think is being driven too fast, too slow, too erratic, or that just seems suspicious.
