The soccer coach jailed on suspicion of murdering 13-year-old Oscar Omar Hernandez was charged Tuesday with an additional count for an alleged sexual attack on a teen in 2022. Mario Edgardo Garcia Aquino, 43, was set to make an initial appearance in court Tuesday afternoon in downtown Los Angeles. He was charged Monday with first-degree murder for the death of Oscar, who was reported missing March 30 after his parents said he'd gone to visit Garcia Aquino in the Antelope Valley.

Prosecutors in LA filed a murder charge with special circumstances Monday in the disappearance and death of Oscar Omar Hernandez, the 13-year-old boy who vanished after visiting a soccer coach in the Antelope Valley last month. That coach, identified by Hernandez's family as Mario Edgardo Garcia Aquino, was arrested last week by LAPD detectives investigating the teen's disappearance, although he was booked on an unrelated assault charge from last year.

A soccer coach identified by the family of a missing 13-year-old boy as the last person who had contact with the teen was questioned about the disappearance and booked on an unrelated sexual assault charge, according to law enforcement sources and court records. Police have said a body that appears to match the description of Oscar Omar Hernandez was discovered earlier this week off a road in Oxnard, but the medical examiner in Ventura County has yet to verify the identity.
