Embarking on her college journey feels so big, so transformative, so life-changing, Maame Agyeman can only compare it to one thing: moving across the world. At age 12, thanks to career opportunities awaiting her engineer father, she left her childhood home in the African country of Ghana for a fresh start in Middletown, Delaware.
“This moment feels similar,” said Agyeman, who will begin her first year as an undergraduate student at the University of Delaware on August 27. “I’m excited and nervous.

Campus abounded with energy, as more than 3,900 new first-year students unpacked in UD’s residence halls One by one, new first-year students made their way into University of Delaware residence halls Friday, eager to start their Blue Hen journey.

“One of the big advantages of UD is we bring the world to you,” Assanis told the students. “Take advantage of this. Susan Truehart Garey is a natural born leader. Even her sheep can see it.
On a cloudy morning in June, Garey walked out on her Kent County farm, opening a gate for her sheep to trot through onto fresh pasture. The sheep happily followed her, bleating with excitement to munch on their morning grassy snack.
Garey has dedicated her career and life to promoting positive aspects of agriculture. She is the Kent County director for University of Delaware Cooperative Extension.

Mohsin Siddiqui, University of Delaware associate professor in construction engineering and management, has used technology to create innovative teaching strategies for more than a decade. Now, with the expertise he gained in UD PCS’ Instructional Design Certificate program, he's working to fine-tune that innovative approach and share it with his fellow professors.

For a behind-the-scenes peek into how the Creamery creates, transports and serves its frozen treats through summer storms and sweltering heat, UDaily turned to Jennifer Rodammer, director of operations and a UD alumna. Cows on the University of Delaware Newark Farm provide the milk for UDairy Creamery’s ice cream. “Planning for the fair begins in November,” Rodammer said.

Before attending nutrition education counseling at Horizon House in Wilmington, Natisha Clanton ate fast food almost daily.
“I hated vegetables,” she said.
Felicia Lewis felt the same way.
“I didn’t like asparagus, squash or zucchini,” Lewis said.
