A piece of jewellery bought for £15 in a Leicester charity shop could now sell for thousands after being identified as a rare royal mourning ring. The piece was commissioned by prince regent George IV to honour his sister Princess Amelia following her death in 1810. Its significance was discovered when the buyer took it to auctioneer Charles Hanson. Princess Amelia died of tuberculosis - a loss which, historians say, led to her father George III's loss of sanity.
