    The son of Derry singer-songwriter Eamon Friel has said that a Paul Weller cover of one of his songs is the “ultimate tribute” to his late father. The cover of El Dorado features on the rock legend’s latest album, which comprises of songs by other artists that have stuck with him over the years. Rising to fame in the 1970s as the frontman of The Jam and Style Council Weller has been in Derry and the northwest this week to meet the Friel family.

    A 44-year-old man has died following a crash between a lorry and a van in Co Derry . Police say they attended the collision in the on the Dunhill Road near Macosquin at around 11.55am on Wednesday. The driver of the van, named by police as Ruben Alexandre Guimaraes from Moy, was pronounced dead at the scene. Roads Inspector Cherith Adair from the PSNI’s Collision Investigation Unit said: “Officers attended, alongside our colleagues from other emergency services.
