Blue Lights picked up one of the biggest prizes at Sunday night’s BAFTAs by winning the award for best drama series. The hit BBC show, which is filmed in Belfast and follows PSNI officers tackling paramilitary-linked crime gangs, won the category ahead of series including Wolf Hall and Sherwood. It marks the first BAFTA for the series and comes after another big win earlier this year at the Broadcast Awards in London.

The grieving families of two teenage boys who tragically drowned in Co Donegal over the weekend were joined by members of the community, emergency services and politicians for a prayer service on Sunday. Led by Bishop Donal McKeown, the prayer vigil for Emmanuel Familola (16) and Matt Zibanda (18), was held in a packed-out St Mary’s Oratory in Buncrana.

Around 200 cannabis plants and a large sum of cash were found after a ‘sophisticated’ cannabis factory was uncovered in Co Armagh as officers were searching for a driver who had abandoned their car. The discovery happened in the early hours of Sunday morning in the Main Street area of Blackwatertown. Officers had been in the area dealing with a report of a driver who was believed to be under the influence when they came across “extremely loud music” coming from a residential property.

A Garda officer has been killed after being hit by a speeding motorbike at a checkpoint in Co Dublin on Sunday afternoon. Kevin Flatley, aged 49, was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident on the R132 road in Lanestown. Mr Flatley was the father to two young children. Police have described a drone near-miss with a rescue helicopter in the Mournes as “absolute madness” and potentially “catastrophic”. The incident happened on Saturday evening after the coastguard helicopter successfully rescued a casualty from the Lower Cove area. Police say the near collision happened as the helicopter was preparing to take off and return to Prestwick, when officers spotted the drone flying in close proximity.
