A new study by the Quebec Housing Corporation (SHQ) shows investing in affordable housing is more than worth it. The study advocates for the government to create more social housing, and highlights that every dollar invested can yield at least a 138 per cent return. The study says governments can save by investing in social housing due to the prevention of homelessness, among other factors. Some 26,588 jobs could be sustained through the construction and maintenance of such housing projects.

Quebec provincial police (SQ) arrested a man after the body of a 45-year-old woman was found in a home in Châteauguay. According to the SQ, Chateauguay police discovered the woman’s body around 3 p.m. Wednesday in a home on Jules-Dumouchel Street on Montreal’s South Shore. The file was then transferred to the SQ, which said it intercepted a vehicle and arrested the 49-year-old suspect. Investigators will interview him to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The president of the union of Quebec bar owners is demanding the province do more to combat extortion and organized crime. Peter Sergakis penned a letter to Premier Francois Legault, Minister of Public Security Francois Bonnardel, and Montreal Chief of Police Fady Dagher to this effect on Monday. “For almost two years now, tenants and other Quebec entrepreneurs have been victims of intimidation, extortion, firebombings and shootings,” he wrote.

A quarter of Canada’s new cabinet ministers are from Quebec. On Tuesday, Prime Minister Mark Carney swore in his new 28-minister cabinet, seven of whom are from Quebec, with the support of 10 secretaries of state. Political analysts have previously attributed the Liberal Party’s election win to Quebec voters after most of the province went red in April. Of Quebec’s 78 ridings, 44 went to the Liberals while the Bloc Québécois lost a third of its seats.
