Sydney Water's sewage treatment network is the "likely" source of the black balls found across NSW beaches in recent months, an investigation by NSW's environment watchdog has found. The NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) announced on Friday its ongoing investigation into the black balls of debris — found to be made up of a mixture of human faeces, cooking oil, drugs and cosmetics — had determined waste-water plants in Sydney operated by the utility service were likely to blame.

A man has been charged with allegedly defacing a number of properties with antisemitic graffiti in Sydney's southern and eastern suburbs. A Jewish primary school in Maroubra, a nearby home, a shopping centre in Eastgardens and a home in Eastlakes were all sprayed with antisemitic phrases on January 30. A wall at Mount Sinai College was tagged with "Jews are real terrorists".
