(WGR Sports Radio 550) - The National Hockey League held its annual Draft Lottery on Monday to determine the official draft order for the first round of the 2025 NHL Draft on Friday, June 27. Heading into the lottery, the Buffalo Sabres held the seventh-best odds at winning the first overall pick at 6.5%. However, after the New York Islanders were the winning draw for the No. 1 pick at just 3.5%, they bumped the Sabres to the eighth overall selection in the first round.

Deputy Director of Aviation for the NFTA Russell Stark said that the event has been in Buffalo since 1983. The event has been held in Buffalo due to its central location and the amount of snow Western New York receives every year.

This is the first time in years that the cherry blossom trees are blooming at the same time as the festival. The earliest Buffalo could host the NFL Draft would be in 2027 with Pittsburgh holding the next draft in 2026. Local officials in Erie County and Orchard Park would like to see the Draft come to Buffalo.
