    Last Tuesday, the college announced that Chuck Davis, CEO of private equity firm Stone Point Capital, will deliver this year’s commencement address. Upon receiving the news, we felt both confused and disappointed. As seniors entering our final days on campus, we feel an immense sense of gratitude for our academic, extracurricular and personal experiences at Middlebury. However, we do not feel that Davis is representative of, or truthful to, these experiences.

    This April, Middlebury’s Department of Religion is hosting a four-part lecture series on Christian nationalism, bringing journalists, Christian ethicists and scholars of religion to campus. The first two lectures focused on the implications of this movement for American democracy and how social media has platformed and shifted Christian nationalist messaging. The lecture series, which is funded through the department’s endowed Charles P.

    Faculty voted 79 to 15 in favor of a proposed change to the college’s Latin honors system on Dec. 10 at a plenary faculty meeting in Wilson Hall. The new honors system will drastically restrict the number of graduates who receive Latin honors, eliminate the Valedictorian and Salutatorian titles, and remove the semester-based College Scholar distinction. Starting in July 2025, Middlebury will allocate honors based on a percentage, rather than a GPA cutoff.

    Middlebury College President Laurie Patton cut the ribbon to officially open the South Street Extension solar array on Thursday, Oct. 24, unveiling a project that will now provide 40% of the college’s total electricity. The college hosted the event along with the developer, Encore Renewable Energy, and owner and operator, Greenbacker Renewable Energy Company. Thursday marked the culmination of a three-year project which broke ground on Oct. 12, 2021.
