Amid a plummeting stock market, self-driving cars running amok, and Mark Zuckerberg buying a house in Northwest, another sign of end times has arrived in Washington, DC: A diamond, the color of blood. Some, like the people at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of Natural History, will tell you the 2.33 carat diamond colored like the water of life that gushed forth from Ouranos after Kronos’s patricide, is simply a gift from Ronald Winston, the son of famed jeweler Harry Winston.

Think of the DC area’s “Koreatown” and you might picture the veteran bulgogi houses of Annandale or the burgeoning scene in Centreville. Together, they make up one of the great Korean food destinations this side of Seoul or SoCal. But our region has another Koreatown, too: a constellation of strip-mall businesses along a stretch of Route 40 in Ellicott City.

Around 3,000 people showed up the US Capitol Reflecting Pool Monday to protest the deep cuts President Trump and Elon Musk are making to the federal government. They carried signs that read “Stop Firing My Friends!” and “No One Voted for Elon Musk.” The protests were part of a nationwide series organized in part by the 50501 Movement, which organized similar events at the beginning of February. Our photographer Evy Mages was on the scene.
