Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly has said he was "quite taken aback" by Dr James Gray's testimony at Aoife Johnston's inquest where he described University Hospital Limerick as a dangerous place. Minister Donnelly said some of Mr Gray's colleagues have said the hospital is a "lot better and safer now" compared to the time when Ms Johnston died.

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said claims the Rwanda plan is causing an influx of migrants into Ireland show its deterrent effect is working. "The deterrent is … already having an impact because people are worried about coming here," the Prime Minister said. It comes after Tánaiste Micheál Martin said the UK’s asylum policy is driving migrants in fear of being deported to Rwanda across the border from Northern Ireland into the Republic.

The Chief Executive of Children's Health Ireland has been reassigned to a different role in the organisation. Eilísh Hardiman, led CHI since it was established in 2018. Prior to that she was Group Chief Executive of Children’s Hospital Group. She has now been appointed as "Strategic Programme Director" in the organisation, and CHI said it will recruit a new Chief Executive through public recruitment.

The President of the Irish Pharmacy Union (IPU) has said there is a current shortage of approximately 300 medicines in Ireland. That includes those that treat common medical conditions like diabetes, blood pressure, Parkinson's and ADHD. Tom Murray told the IPU annual conference in Athlone today that this is placing "phenomenal pressure" on pharmacists nationwide and many are facing burnout, while also describing the "unfair" impact it is having on patients.
