Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly has said he was "quite taken aback" by Dr James Gray's testimony at Aoife Johnston's inquest where he described University Hospital Limerick as a dangerous place. Minister Donnelly said some of Mr Gray's colleagues have said the hospital is a "lot better and safer now" compared to the time when Ms Johnston died.

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said claims the Rwanda plan is causing an influx of migrants into Ireland show its deterrent effect is working. "The deterrent is … already having an impact because people are worried about coming here," the Prime Minister said. It comes after Tánaiste Micheál Martin said the UK’s asylum policy is driving migrants in fear of being deported to Rwanda across the border from Northern Ireland into the Republic.

The Chief Executive of Children's Health Ireland has been reassigned to a different role in the organisation. Eilísh Hardiman, led CHI since it was established in 2018. Prior to that she was Group Chief Executive of Children’s Hospital Group. She has now been appointed as "Strategic Programme Director" in the organisation, and CHI said it will recruit a new Chief Executive through public recruitment.

The President of the Irish Pharmacy Union (IPU) has said there is a current shortage of approximately 300 medicines in Ireland. That includes those that treat common medical conditions like diabetes, blood pressure, Parkinson's and ADHD. Tom Murray told the IPU annual conference in Athlone today that this is placing "phenomenal pressure" on pharmacists nationwide and many are facing burnout, while also describing the "unfair" impact it is having on patients.

The Government has said it expects to receive two key reports on RTÉ very shortly. Taoiseach Simon Harris met the Minister for Media Catherine Martin yesterday evening to discuss the issue, and said the recommendations of the report are key to moving forward. Last summer Minister Martin commissioned two external reports on the national broadcaster, one reviewing governance and culture, and the second focusing on contractor fees, human resources and other matters.

The journalist Ethna Viney has died at the age of 95. She passed away last night. She is survived by her daughter Michelle Viney, her brother Bert McManus and sister Eva McManus. Her husband, Michael Viney, passed away in May last year at the age of 90. Ms Viney wrote her first articles for the Irish Times in the early 1960s on changes to the Anglo-Irish trade agreements. She wrote a weekly 'Eye on Nature' column for the Irish Times for 33 years.

US intelligence agencies have determined that Russian President Vladimir Putin probably didn't order opposition politician Alexei Navalny killed at an Arctic prison camp in February, the Wall Street Journal has reported. Mr Navalny, 47 when he died, was Mr Putin's fiercest domestic critic. His allies, branded extremists by the authorities, accused Mr Putin of having him murdered and have said they will provide proof to back their allegation. The Kremlin has denied any state involvement.

The new advisory board will help authorities combat AI-related disruptions that may "impact national or economic security, public health, or safety," the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said in a statement released yesterday.
