Ardersier will welcome an acclaimed Scottish folk musician next week. For its monthly guest night, Ardersier International Folk Club is set to host a performance by multi award-winning singer Christine Kydd. Performing at the village church Hall on Tuesday, June 3, the musician was twice nominated for MG Alba Scots Singer of the Year and was inducted to the Scottish Traditional Music Hall of Fame at the Na Trads in 2018.

Funds to help support people in Nairnshire who are facing hardship have received a boost this week. Nairn councillors agreed at the latest area committee meeting on Monday to add £2000 from the Nairn and Auldearn Poor Fund to the Nairn and Nairnshire’s ‘People’s Pot’. The committee also agreed that the Nairn Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) should administer the funds as part of the ‘Peoples Pot’, which the CAB have responsibility for.

A Nairn golf club retained its position in the UK’s top courses, according to two golfing publications. The Championship course at Nairn Golf Club has been recognised in the rankings of the Top 100 Golf Courses Great Britain and Ireland. — where it ranked 54th — while Although this is a slight move downwards in the latter for the club (which was ranked 35 in 2022/23 and 37 in 2022/23) it still marks a strong position in the country.

An Inverness city centre vinyl treasure trove has been forced to close its doors amidst rising costs and a “massive downturn” in sales, aggravated by the cost of living crisis. Union Vinyl’s owner Nigel Graham announced this morning that the Market Brae Steps shop, the only independent vinyl record store in the Highland capital, will permanently close after it became unsustainable to run the business.
