Investigators weren’t able to definitively confirm that the car retrieved from the Columbia River earlier this month belonged to a family that disappeared 67 years ago, though they “have every reason to believe” that it did, officials said Monday. The Hood River County Sheriff’s Office also said it is suspending the search for any additional parts of the car that they pulled from the river March 7.

The Multnomah County jail system’s top doctor left the position last week, records show. It’s not clear whether he was fired or resigned. The county hired Dr. Eleazar Lawson Aug. 10, 2023, as medical director for the Corrections Health department. The jail system was and continues to be in turmoil after an unprecedented spate of in-custody deaths. Six people being held at the Multnomah County Detention Center or Inverness Jail died in the four months before Lawson was hired.

A volunteer diver has found the body of the 2-year-old Siletz boy who went missing while playing in his front yard 10 days ago, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday. Dane Paulsen went missing March 1, launching a massive search effort that covered hundreds of acres of rural and forested land surrounding the family’s property just north of Siletz.
