    A 49-year-old woman died in Northeast Portland’s Inverness Jail Thursday, the second in-custody death in Multnomah County this year. Sharon Lee Watkins was booked in jail Monday and was found unresponsive Thursday around 8 a.m., the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. Deputies and corrections health staff were unable to revive her and she was pronounced dead at the scene. Watkins faced charges from three misdemeanor cases dating back to 2017 and 2018.

    Portland police have closed multiple lanes on the top deck of the Fremont Bridge to respond to a person in crisis and have asked people to find alternate routes, officials said Monday afternoon. The lanes shut down on the bridge are on the top deck, which carries traffic across the Willamette River from the east side of the city to the west side on Interstate 405.     William Spahnle was up eating ice cream in his kitchen on Sunday at about 1:30 a.m. when he heard gunshots. He spotted a hole in the wall of his second-floor Gresham apartment. He ran to his son, who had been sleeping on an air mattress in the living room. The boy, Liam Spahnle, was seriously injured and, within hours, was dead, killed by a stray bullet that came from the apartment next door.

    A man who has terrorized dozens of Portland women for more than a decade was sentenced to 22 years in prison for filming 31 women in public bathrooms. Jared Walter, 37, had been out of prison only a few months after serving a 17-month sentence for filming a woman in a public bathroom when he was arrested in 2023 on suspicion of filming a teenager in a Providence Park bathroom.
