Hungry mangrove crabs feasting on freshly dropped leaves, shy red lobsters and possum babies. These are just a few of the creatures that live in the dark, humid mangrove forests along Darwin's coast, which have inspired a new collaboration from four local artists. Jasmine Jan, who specialises in community art projects, dreamt up the concept, and has been collecting recycled denim to stitch with plants, animals and their descriptions.

Theresa Roe hid in a hallway cupboard and said prayers all night while her home was torn apart around her during Cyclone Tracy. Just a few hours earlier Ms Roe had been happily wrapping Christmas presents with her family and placing them under the tree. She was 14 at the time. "All night long, we were just trying to find a good place so we weren't blown away," Ms Roe said. "I thought it was the end of the world, I actually thought it was the end of the world.

Divers have visited the wreckage of a boat that sank during Cyclone Tracy 50 years ago to lay a wreath for those who died during the storm. Ruth Nazmeena Vincent was one of five people onboard the 36-metre freighter Booya, which was eventually found in Darwin Harbour in 2003. On Sunday, two of Ruth's children, Georgia and Tony, attended the dive of the wreckage, which they say has become a special place for the family. "It's really for the kids," Ms Vincent said.

Aboriginal peak bodies and other community leaders have cautiously welcomed NT Police Commissioner Michael Murphy's historic apology to First Nations people at Garma. However the NT's police union has criticised the commissioner for overstepping and voiced fears about its members being 'unfairly' blamed for past actions. Stakeholders say they'll be looking for clear actions to follow the speech, particularly from the police force's new anti-racism strategy.
