After six long days without power at Douglas Plaza in Wilkinsburg, residents finally saw the lights turn on after crews replaced a 65-foot utility pole on Monday. The power restoration effort was handled by a crew a Duquesne Light called in from Michigan, working extended 16-hour shifts. In the interim, they relied on their cars to charge devices, cooked food outdoors, and accepted aid from the Red Cross and Allegheny County human services.

Thousands of Pittsburghers are still without power more than five days after violent storms swept through the area. "Like, we’re left out. That's the way we feel," said Fred Gibson, who lives in Prospect Terrace in East Pittsburgh. Residents there haven't showered, lost food to spoilage, and are running cars to charge their phones. "That's gas I'm burning that I shouldn't be burning," Gibson said. Yet, fallen trees and power lines remain untouched.

The night before the Pittsburgh Marathon, last-minute preparations were in full swing, with 100 operations staff members and 4,000 volunteers readying the course for Sunday’s race. Nearly 300,000 people are expected in downtown Pittsburgh for the event. Preparations began with extensive road closures. Boulevard of the Allies closed Friday.

A line of destruction was left behind from Tuesday's strong storms in Carnegie. An entire road was shut down as crews worked to clean up the damage left behind, including pieces of a roof that flew off a building.On that same portion of road, a power line toppled on top of a car while a person was inside of it. Pittsburgh's Action News 4 was told that person managed to safely escape from their vehicle.Rick Bennett was outside when the storm blew through."All of a sudden the sky got real black.
