The station has been under the ownership of Hearst Television since it first began broadcasting, making it one of the two stations established by Hearst, the other being the flagship WBAL-TV in Baltimore. The studios for WTAE are situated on Ardmore Boulevard (PA 8) in the Wilkinsburg area, which has a Pittsburgh mailing address. Its transmission tower can be found in Buena Vista, Pennsylvania.
