An elected Labor government would spend close to $200m more in the Mackay-Whitsunday region compared to the LNP, when all the local promises are accounted for. But the LNP has promised to spread around more smaller amounts of funding to local sport and community clubs as Labor bets big on a new satellite hospital and significant upgrades to the Peak Downs Highway. A call for information has gone out after a father of two disappeared in the Whitsundays four days ago. Joel Pringle was last seen around 4.30pm on Monday, August 19, at a residence on Waite Creek Crt, Cannonvale. Since then the only hint of his whereabouts was a signal from his phone in the Conway National Park and Mount Julian area. The signal was last detected at 6am August 20 and it is believed by police that he still has his 2007 white Holden Crewman ute with QLD registration 403KA2.

Ernest Eric Lansdowne had been a medical attendant when he was called for a tour at Papua New Guinea. “They were flying the DC3 through the tops of the jungle, they’d get back to landing with bit of palm tree leaves stuck in the undercarriage … they were flying that low,” Mr Lansdowne said.

Glass covered the intersection between Maclomson St and Hervey St after a two vehicle collision between a white Ute and a Queensland Police vehicle. Multiple police vehicles, as well as an ambulance and fire engine responded to the crash with traffic diverted. Both lanes of Hervey St were closed near the intersection. Queensland Fire and Emergency Service personnel inspected the police vehicle’s crushed front for damage before clearing debris from the scene.
