Police have made a public appeal nearly two weeks after a Whitsunday mum was reported missing by her family on June 1. Celeste McGain was reportedly in “good spirits” when she was last seen by family at her Woodwark home about 2pm on Saturday, May 25. She moved to the Whitsundays in February to move in with her three sons, who are between 25 and 18 years old.

Coastal authorities are warning residents to prepare for massive rainfall as forecasts expect the incoming Tropical Cyclone Kirrily to dump almost as much water as the disastrous TC Debbie in 2017. The Bureau of Meterology expect Kirrily to form as a category 3 cyclone on Tuesday and make landfall this week somewhere between Cairns and Mackay, bringing 120km/h winds and “heavy rainfall to areas well south of the crozzing zone late in the week or over the weekend”.

Mackay Regional Council mayor Greg Williamson said the storm need only veer south “a hundred kilometres or so, and it’s Debbie all over again”. “The thing that’s got us a little bit concerned is that it will go inland, turn south and come back down as a tropical low,” Mr Williamson said.

A young woman who stole drinks more than twenty times from various liquor stores told a magistrate she was keen to get her photo ID to “go to the pubs and sh-t” despite his warnings about her alcoholism. Angelique Dorothy Shrimp told Mackay Magistrates Court she felt her offending had calmed down “because I give (shoplifted drinks) back when they (staff members) stop me”.
