Photo / Bevan ConleyPowerco contractors are investigating what caused two power outages two days apart which each affected more than 1100 homes in Springvale, Whanganui. A Powerco spokesperson said the first major outage was on January 2 at 3.05pm, affecting 1198 properties. Of those, 425 had their power restored within 27 minutes, while power was restored to all remaining properties in 49 minutes.

George Davey covered 220 kilometres to reach the 'summit'. Whanganui mountain biker George Davey’s need for a personal challenge drove him to climb the height of Mt Everest in a day. The pursuit is called Everesting, with runners and bike riders picking a hill and attempting to climb the equivalent of Everest’s 8848 metres over repeated laps in one day without stopping. Davey enjoyed pushing his body “to see what I was capable of”.

Photo / Finn WilliamsA growing group of Whanganui yoga enthusiasts have gathered at Pākaitore Moutoa gardens for 10 Days of Summer Yoga by the Awa over the festive season. Ten free yoga classes are being held between December 26 and January 4, with eight different teachers holding classes. Organiser Rosemary Miller said attendance for this year’s events had been great and interest had grown year-on-year.
