Do people still read intros? Probably not—nobody has time for that. It makes me think of an old saying about music on the radio in the 2000s: “You’ve got seven seconds to capture the listener’s attention with a song. If you don’t do that, they’ll change the station.” In 2024, there’s probably a rule like that for TikTok, but it’s probably more like three seconds.

My weeks have been following a familiar theme: don’t sleep enough, work too much, and find a new indie rock obsession. This week, that last spot has been filled by Foxtide, a four piece band out of San Diego. Although it had been nearly a year since their last release, they chose the perfect time in the middle of summer for their return with “Hold On,” an amazing blend of feel good production and head bopping melodies.

When I first pressed play on Groupthink’s “Peach Fuzz” last October, nothing could have prepared me for what I was about to experience. What started as a grungy collaboration that took one of my favorite artists out of his comfort zone quickly blossomed into a full scale indie dance powerhouse of a band. They were releasing music unlike anything I had heard before, seemingly evolving with each new track.
