AbstractFoodborne diseases (FBDs) are a major worldwide public health concern. In the current context of globalization, it has become crucial to establish effective collaboration between countries to reduce the incidence of FBDs, by creating knowledge-sharing activities to address this challenge. However, despite the importance of this subject, there are limited opportunities for researchers from French-speaking countries to meet and exchange expertise in this field.

In the framework of Articles 23 and 33 of Regulation (EC) No 178/2002 EFSA has received from the European Commission a mandate (M-2010-0374) to collect all available data on the occurrence of chemical contaminants in food and feed. These data are used in EFSA’s scientific opinions and reports on contaminants in food and feed. The presence of unauthorised substances or chemical contaminants in food may pose a risk factor for public health and can cause a negative impact on the quality of food.

The results presented in this study summarize the state of the art in mechanistic modeling applied to field outbreaks of low pathogenicity and highly pathogenic avian influenza in poultry. Our objectives were to describe the models and their epidemiological context, to list current estimates of AIV transmission parameters, to provide insights on avian influenza transmission and the impact of control strategies, and finally to discuss future avenues for modeling AIV transmission.

Since 2001, France has been considered OTF by the European Union (EU), with a national prevalence under 0.1%, despite a limited number of outbreaks (average 100) occurring each year (Fig. 1). IntroductionAntimicrobial resistance (AMR) has been widely recognized as a major public health problem, responsible for an estimated 23,100 human deaths every year in Western and Central Europe (Murray et al., 2022). To address this issue, a One Health surveillance approach is needed, as stated in the European Union (EU) One Health Action Plan against AMR (European Commission, 2017).
