N. Maye Luga of Mentor named by Ohio Arts CouncilMENTOR – When Mentor artist N. Maye Luga applied for an Individual Excellence Award from the Ohio Arts Council in September, she had no expectations. Last week, she learned she was chosen. “It’s amazing, I still can’t believe it,” she said. “I’m incredibly honored.”Luga was among 75 artists chosen by the Ohio Arts Council (OAC) for the award, which recognizes outstanding accomplishments by artists in a variety of disciplines.
Administrator addresses Madison residents’ concerns about interchange striping

MADISON – Residents’ frustrations regarding fading and missing road striping at the I-90 interchange is on ODOT’s to-do list for the near future, whenever the weather allows, according to remarks from Village Administrator Jason Chapman during a Monday, Jan. 27, Madison Village Council meeting. Chapman said township officials are keenly aware of residents’ concerns about the poor visibility of the stripe pattern at the interchange, particularly during bad weather.
State commits funds for Vrooman Road bridge maintenance

PERRY TOWNSHIP – The Ohio Department of Transportation has committed $176,880 of its 2029 fiscal year funds to help keep up the deck on the bridge over the Grand River on Vrooman Road. In a Monday, Jan. 27, press release, ODOT announced nearly $9 million in grants under its Local Major Bridge Program. This round of funding will go toward modernizing and repairing four local bridges in Franklin, Fairfield, and Hamilton counties, in addition to Vrooman Road, according to the release.

FAIRPORT HARBOR – 2025 will see the 86th and final Fairport Harbor Mardi Gras, with organizers saying problems securing a ride company, a dwindling base of volunteers and a lack of sponsorships all contributed to the decision to bring the popular summer lakefront festival to a close. Shannon Barnhill, the festival president, said the decision was taken over a culmination of factors, but the main problem has been securing a reputable ride company, a search that began in September.

Amidst all the stress, anxiety, craziness and bad news, my goal is to spotlight and share the good news in our community. I can still picture those lazy summers with my cousins – swinging on a tree vine across a creek, cooling off in a neighbor’s pool, sharing secrets during sleepovers and laughing until our stomachs ached. SHARON, Penn. – The Sharon Regional Medical Center will reopen under new ownership after a bankruptcy court approved the hospital’s purchase late last week. According to records from the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas, Tenor Health Foundation Inc. acquired the hospital for $1.9 million. As part of parent company Steward Health Care’s bankruptcy proceedings, Judge Christopher Lopez authorized Sharon Regional Medical Center’s closure on Jan.

MADISON/PERRY – A pair of family-owned pizzerias has committed to setting aside 15 percent net sales every Monday during 2025 from each of its two locations to donate to a different local cause each week in both Madison and Perry. Kay Jack Pizza & Soft Pretzels launched “Pizza with Purpose” at the beginning of the year, according to Bill Hoon, who co-owns the business with his wife, Kara.
