TURLOCK, Calif. — A Turlock homeless shelter could lose out on a nearly $270,000 state grant to stay open after a disagreement with City Council. The We Care Program, which offers shelter to 49 men every night, was on the cusp of receiving the funding. All it needed was a $1 commitment and a letter of support from Turlock city council. But in a 3-2 vote earlier in April, councilmembers rejected signing the letter and offering the $1 support.

STOCKTON, Calif. — Pedestrians in Stockton may soon have a safer way to cross some of the city's busiest streets. Tuesday night, the Stockton City Council is set to vote on nearly $4 million in crosswalk safety upgrades. The upgrades, funded by a state grant, would add "HAWK" crosswalks to eight locations, mainly in south Stockton.
