Permanent sites for van dwellers could be created in Bristol to cater for the growing number of people living on the kerbside. Councillors will meet today (Friday, February 14) to discuss a series of recommendations aimed at helping those who want to move into bricks and mortar homes - and those who don’t. The number of van-dwellers has more than quadrupled in the past five years with council figures estimating there were 150 spread across the city in 2019 and around 680 today.

BRISTOL households may see a cut to their postal service from next week. Clifton delivery office is taking part in a 'new delivery model' trial which could result in an end to second class deliveries at weekends. Instead, second class mail would arrive over the course of 'non-consecutive' weekdays. The move is part of a pilot taking place while regulator Ofcom gets ready to rule on Royal Mail’s request to cut back on its operating obligations.

More than 5,000 people have signed a petition against proposals for monthly bin collections in Bristol. The Green-led city council is currently consulting on plans to cut black bin collections to every three or four weeks. The move could save the cash-strapped local authority millions and also, it is argued, improve recycling rates.

”Philistine” plans to save cash by closing three Bristol museums would unlikely deliver significant savings and must be dropped, Conservative councillors have claimed. The council-run museums at Blaise Castle, the Georgian House and the Red Lodge museums could be shut completely, while the Archives Searchroom may have its opening hours cut back significantly. Last month council director Alex Hearn wrote to staff who work there warning of potential cutbacks.
