Balance has been restored: Scottie Scheffler is winning again. At the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, Scheffler didn't just grab his first victory of 2025. He did it by playing what can only be described as video game golf, shooting 31-under par at TPC Craig Ranch for a wire-to-wire victory. His tournament total of 253 tied the PGA Tour record for lowest 72-hole score, shared by Justin Thomas and Ludvig Åberg. Scheffler's scoring average in Dallas this week was 63.25.

It's approaching that time: Ryder Cup projection season. Who needs to keep their momentum going in the majors? Who needs a summer surge to even be in the conversation? Who is locked in? Let's talk about it all, European team edition. The Euros have the sixth man ever to complete a career Grand Slam, a young stud continuing to define himself on the game's biggest stages and a pair of identical twins who need some late-season magic.

Justin Thomas was over it. All the questions, the doubts, a lingering narrative stretching nearly three years: When would he win again? Thomas held a one-shot lead with three holes to play at the RBC Heritage. The result he wanted so desperately was unfolding. Until Andrew Novak continued to hang around just a little bit too long for comfort. Seeking his first PGA Tour victory, Novak re-entered the picture with a birdie at the 16th and a chance for another at the 18th to end it. He did not.

So, yeah. That happened. I played Augusta National the day after Rory McIlroy won the Masters and became the sixth man in golf to complete the career Grand Slam. I cannot believe that is a factual statement that I'm typing right now. As I'm sitting down to write this, back in my lower Manhattan shoebox, the emotions of the experience are starting to really hit me for the first time. Since I found out about this on Friday afternoon, I've been operating purely on adrenaline.

You may or may not know that on the Monday after the Masters, Augusta National Golf Club allows a group of media members to play the course. Every credentialed member of the press is eligible through a lottery system, and being picked is, for many, the highlight of their week. The Athletic 's Gabby Herzig, covering her second Masters, was lucky enough to be chosen and played Augusta National the day after Rory McIlroy won the career Grand Slam.

RT @kclairerogers: I will never ever get this comparison out of my head. Unreal stuff from @GabbyHerzig as usual https://t.co/hOU2GN0jue

RT @BrodyAMiller: A year ago, Officer Bryan Gillis' apparently $80 pants were damaged beyond repair. So @GabbyHerzig and I had a question:…

If you know my brother, this is not surprising in the slightest. Medalist honors at U.S. Open locals with 2 doubles and 7 birdies 😂 A Herzig has a Final Qualifying spot!!! https://t.co/1SYvYKyTUJ
