CROMWELL, Conn. — The PGA Tour has new leadership. Jay Monahan, the current commissioner of the PGA Tour, will step down from his position at the end of 2026 to make way for the new CEO, Brian Rolapp. The tour officially announced Rolapp’s hire from the NFL on Tuesday. The search for a CEO to be at the helm of the PGA Tour’s new for-profit entity, PGA Tour Enterprises, began at the start of this year, with an implication that Monahan could phase out of his role upon an eventual hire.

OAKMONT, Pa. - When sheets of rain descended upon Oakmont Sunday afternoon and an army of groundskeepers started taking squeegees and hand towels to the fairways, a tumultous finish and bizarre turn became inevitable at this U.S. Open. The backward leaderboard movement did not stop all day at the venerable Pittsburgh major venue, and it ended with J.J. Spaun at the top - the man who survived a soaked and borderline unplayable golf course.

OAKMONT, Pa. - Of the five men at or below par following the third round of the 2025 U.S. Open, only one has won a major championship. That's Adam Scott, the 2013 Masters champion who would be the second-oldest U.S. Open winner. Besides him, there's leader Sam Burns, a five-time PGA Tour winner who has one career top 10 in a major; J.J. Spaun, who missed the cut in only other U.S. Open appearance; and Carlos Ortiz, who hasn't played in a major in two years and not made the cut in one in four.

OAKMONT, Pa. - The smile wasn't particularly wide, but it was a smile. After playing in his first U.S. Open, after exploring every last inch of Oakmont Country Club, and after sinking one last putt to mercifully break 90, George Duangmanee deserved to grin as little or as much as he wanted. "I knew it was going to be a hard test coming in, but I didn't think it was going to be this hard," Duangmanee said, standing outside Oakmont's scoring area.

Brian Rolapp of the NFL is expected to be announced soon as the PGA Tour's new CEO, sources confirmed to The Athletic. Jay Monahan, the current commissioner of the PGA Tour, will remain in his role, but Rolapp - who has held various executive positions at the NFL since 2003 - will lead the tour's new for-profit arm, PGA Tour Enterprises. Roger Goodell announced Rolapp's departure in a memo on Thursday sent to team executives and presidents, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Saw this kid hoofing it with Mackenzie Hughes’ giant staff bag, thought for sure it was his son just messing around. Turns out it was a random kid that Mackenzie pulled from the gallery just for fun. What a guy! https://t.co/YjqtvUucA7
