Complaining to the city has never been easier, thanks to Patrick McCabe. The electrical engineer’s Solve SF app lets users file 311 reports about issues like graffiti or sidewalk poop in as little as 10 seconds, roughly five times faster than the city’s official app. It’s McCabe’s passion project, it’s free to use, and has been boosted online by the political organization GrowSF. But the city is about to kill the vital mechanism the app runs on.

The odds were stacked against Roger Lwin when he set out to open yet another restaurant in a Polk Gulch building where they were known to die. Sixteen eateries had come and gone in just three decades. Neighbors said the building was “cursed.” Winking at the site’s notorious reputation, Lwin opened Hex Bar & Kitchen in 2015. But his restaurant, too, fell prey to the curse — and it only grew stronger after Hex shut its doors in 2017.

The gunman in a fatal shooting near North Beach Wednesday afternoon fired his weapon at the victim’s car as he tried to drive away, video footage obtained by The Standard shows. The shooting occurred in the area of Columbus Avenue and North Point Street around 1:11 p.m., a few blocks away from Fisherman’s Wharf. The San Francisco Police Department said the suspect was inside his vehicle when he shot at another occupied vehicle and then fled the area.

Outside Fremont’s Tesla factory, workers come and go on foot and by bike along a paved path at the edge of the 5.3-million-square-foot property. A sign reads “No trespassing or loitering.” Despite a national outcry against Elon Musk’s work with the Department of Government Efficiency and protesters firebombing Teslas, there are no checkpoints or security gates barring the pathway to the factory.
