    For the third consecutive month, unemployment rates decreased across the North Bay, according to new state figures. California’s month-over-month rate held steady at 5.3%, the Employment Development Department reported Friday. The state’s year-over-year jobless rate increased by 0.1%, compared to 0.3% nationally, the department said. April’s unemployment rates within the North Bay were lowest in Marin County, at 3.7%. Napa County followed at 3.8%, while Sonoma County’s rate was 4%.

    A state appeals court has affirmed the convictions of a defendant serving a lengthy prison term in a Novato child molestation case. Eduardo Aparicio was arrested in 2019 after an investigation by the Novato Police Department. Police alleged that he molested a boy and a girl he babysat for friends. The Marin County District Attorney’s Office charged Aparicio with continuous sexual abuse against the girl from 2012 to 2015 and lewd acts against the boy in 2012.

    A federal judge barred the Trump administration Thursday from denying or conditioning the use of federal funds to “sanctuary” jurisdictions, saying that portions of President Donald Trump’s executive orders were unconstitutional. U.S. District Judge William Orrick in San Francisco issued the injunction sought by San Francisco and more than a dozen other municipalities that limit cooperation with federal immigration efforts.
