    Two private Stinson Beach gardens, both with spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean, will open their gates to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday when the Garden Conservancy’s annual Open Days program comes to Marin. The program celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. The Open Days program has made it possible for more than 1.4 million people to stroll through thousands of private gardens ranging from rooftops and suburban backyards to historic estates and organic farms.

    Novato resident Marinda Freeman, the former executive director of Martha Stewart Catering and a cooking class instructor in New York in the 1980s, brings her cuisine and teaching skills to the Marin Art and Garden Center at noon June 14 for a class on canning summer fruit. Participants in the hands-on, four-hour class will take home jars of handcrafted strawberry-lemon jam, apricot jam and apricot chutney. Admission is $120. Register at maringarden.org/calendar.

And a Marin artist transformed a hallway with her clever take on family portraits.

For some, it can be life-threatening. “About 10% of patients with a bee — or wasp — sting sustain a ‘large local reaction’ where the swelling can enlarge to around 3 inches or more in diameter,” said Dr. Keith Denkler, a clinical professor of plastic surgery at UCSF and a plastic surgeon with a private practice in Marin.
