A man who assaulted his ex-partner on several occasions - including biting her and grabbing her by the throat - has been put behind bars. Ben Carr was jailed for 30 months when he appeared at Chester Crown Court. The 42-year-old was previously found guilty of controlling and coercive behaviour following a trial. On top of his sentence, Carr will serve an additional eight weeks for the activation of a suspended sentence previously imposed in June 2022 by North Staffordshire Justice Centre.

Stagecoach's distinctive red open-top buses are back on the city streets with the Town Crier officially opening the tours. Countess of Chester's bid for new hospital building amid 'need for ward space'

The Countess of Chester Hospital has submitted plans for a new hospital building due to "a need for additional ward space". The two-storey development would be occupied by the therapies department which would move out of the main hospital building in order to free up space for an extra ward. According to the planning application lodged with Cheshire West and Chester Council, work on the development started in November last year but has not been completed.

A teenage cyclist has been taken to hospital "as a precautionary measure" following a collision with a van on a busy Ellesmere Port road. The incident happened on Chester Road, near the Thamesdale junction, shortly before 8.45am today with the road being closed by police for around an hour. A Cheshire Constabulary spokesperson said: "At 8.42am on Wednesday 23 April, police were called to reports of a collision on Chester Road, Whitby.
Historic Chester pub's new lease of life as hotel with café and gaming zone

A historic Chester city centre pub building has been brought back to life as a new hotel. The Grade II listed former George and Dragon boozer, which closed more than five years ago when the pandemic hit, has reopened as George and Dragon Place. Guests can book rooms now - with a range of categories available which are "ideal for business travellers, couples and families alike". Georgie's Cafe is also set to open on site next month, while a 'gaming zone' is launching soon.

A new and improved pedestrian crossing has been installed near a railway station. Work on the toucan crossing and improved junction lay-out has recently been completed on Park Lane, close to Congleton railway station. This location was identified as a gap in the provision on a priority route to the town centre for pedestrians and cyclists. Prior to the construction of this scheme, there was no direct and safe crossing point on Park Lane.
