A man who died in a house explosion that saw dozens of people evacuated from their homes has been named as David Howard. Emergency services were called to John Street, Worksop, Nottinghamshire, shortly after 20:00 BST on Saturday. Nottinghamshire Police said officers recovered the 53-year-old's body from under debris following the blast. His daughters have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers, the force added.

A major incident has been declared due to widespread flooding across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, with dozens rescued by emergency services. Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said it had received more than 200 calls on Monday morning. Crews have attended incidents involving cars stuck in flooding, evacuating residents from homes and rising water levels. On Monday evening, the fire service said 59 members of the public had been rescued so far.

A man has died after being hit by a lorry on the M1 motorway in Leicestershire. Police said the pedestrian was struck by a livestock carrier on the southbound carriageway near junction 21 at about 17:30 GMT on Sunday and died at the scene. The driver, passengers and horses in the vehicle were uninjured, officers said. Witnesses and dashcam footage are being sought following the incident, which led to a stretch of the road being closed for several hours.

A father to be who died when he was hit by a car in Nottingham has been named by police. Cain Parker, 23, was fatally struck in Hucknall Road, Carrington, shortly before 23:00 GMT on Wednesday. Taufeeq Ahmed, also 23, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving and several other offences. In a tribute released by police on Monday, Mr Parker's family revealed he had been expecting a daughter in early 2025.

A dispersal order has been put in place for part of Nottingham in a bid to prevent anti-social and nuisance behaviour during Halloween.
