The balance among insulin secretion, sensitivity, and clearance prevents inadequate insulinemia and its metabolic consequences (1). The liver is the main site for insulin clearance and accounts for degrading up to 80% of endogenously secreted and 50% of intravenously infused insulin during the first portal passage (2).
