A second case of suspected child abuse, this time in Nicosia, is being investigated by police, spokesperson Kyriaki Lambrianidou said on Monday. The case emerged after a video circulated on social media showed a nursery school teacher shaking a child and threatening to throw it out of the window. The child’s father had filed an official complaint at Omorfita police station on Sunday night.

Police in Limassol arrested a 25-year-old man following a car chase during which warning shots were fired, it was reported on Monday. According to the police, officers on overnight patrol spotted a car shortly after midnight without front registration plates, being driven by a person whose face was covered. When police signaled the driver to stop, he sped off, and police ascertained that the rear license plate did not match the car.

Two men, aged 28 and 25, were arrested in the north for masquerading as doctors, Turkish Cypriot police said on Saturday. The police said the pair had between Tuesday and Friday been in the Mia Milia area, and had administered a serum treatment and offered other drugs. Further investigations found that the pair had forged a prescription in the name of a private hospital and taken 27,000TL (€684) from their victim as an “examination fee”.

At least 14 people were killed and 37 wounded, including five children, in Russian missile and drone attacks on Ukraine’s eastern city of Dobropillia and a settlement in Kharkiv region overnight, the Ukrainian Interior Ministry said on Saturday. Russian forces attacked Dobropillia with ballistic missiles, multiple rockets, and drones, causing damage to eight multi-storey buildings and 30 vehicles, according to the ministry.
