Columbus City Council member Lourdes Barroso de Padilla was born in the United States to parents who immigrated from Cuba, but didn't yet have U.S. citizenship. A 6-3 U.S. Supreme Court ruling Friday could mean immigrants like Barroso de Padilla will have to individually challenge efforts in court to roll back the constitutional right that guarantees everyone born in the U.S. full citizenship.

The Catholic Diocese of Columbus will allow children to get the confirmation sacrament at a younger age as the diocese Bishop tried to address young people leaving the church. The Catholic Diocese of Columbus Bishop Earl Fernandes announced in a letter on the diocese's website that 4th graders ages 9 and 10 will be able to get confirmed. Confirmation is one of the seven sacraments for Catholics where a baptized person affirms their commitment to God and the Catholic Church.

Columbus announced its next phase of the Zone-In code overhaul Thursday, with the goal of spurring residential, commercial and industrial development on about 40% of properties in the city. Mayor Andrew Ginther made the announcement alongside other city officials at the Little Grand Market food hall in the Grandview Crossings area of the city. Ginther said developments like that which include housing, business campuses and mixed-use amenities like the food hall are what a new code could spur.

Columbus will purchase two new Bell 505 Basic Aircraft helicopters for its fleet of five choppers for nearly $6 million. Columbus City Council approved the purchase unanimously Monday night, arguing they've made changes so the helicopters aren't as disruptive to city neighborhoods. While other city police departments and county agencies are purchasing drones as a cheaper alternative, Columbus is moving forward with its helicopters.

The Mifflin Township police officer hospitalized for the past several weeks after being shot multiple times was released Monday from OhioHealth Grant Medical Center. The unnamed officer was allegedly shot by Daveonte Dixon, 21, on May 28 after the officer pulled over a car Dixon was a passenger in. A second officer was also shot, but was released from the hospital shortly after the shooting. Police say Dixon fired a total of 15 shots, 11 of which struck the two officers.

Couches were lit on fire near Ohio State's campus after the Buckeye's 34-23 win over Notre Dame. OSU also reports a crowd of over 100 broke into Ohio Stadium. The university reports no injuries or arrests at this time. Have not heard back from Columbus Police yet @wosunews https://t.co/T8AVWx6wtz
