The core community fridge team in action (LHHW)Haslemere’s much-loved Community Fridge has found a new lease of life at Pathways Pavilion, after demand earlier this year forced it to pause operations. The popular initiative – run by environmental charity Love Haslemere Hate Waste (LHHW) – is now fully reopened and operating daily from 8.30 to 10.30am, rescuing surplus food from retailers including M&S, Waitrose and FareShare, and redistributing it to the community.

As concerns mount over the future of Haslemere Hospital’s inpatient wards, some residents have responded with a fundraiser to help keep their hospital open. The Solstice of Shenanigans Summer Party will take place at The Prince of Wales pub in Hammer on Friday, June 21. Organised by local residents Nathan and Fiona Tough, the Midsummer event is being hosted by landlords Nick and Becky, who say they wanted to “give something back” to the community.

The experience taught her early not to be a victim. When she later moved to Hong Kong and enrolled in an English school, she began her transition at 15, believed to be the first student to do so openly in Hong Kong. “A lot of parents complained at first because it was really shocking at the time – I don’t think any of them had heard of it before,” she said. “Before that, I’d had no friends, hated school, and did really badly in class and exams. My parents dreaded parent-teacher conferences.
