Christmas will come early this year for hundreds of children in Cumberland County. The annual Bike Giveaway Program takes place Dec. 7 in Fayetteville. WRAL's Gilbert Baez was the first reporter to tell the story of Moses Mathis, the "bicycle man," in 1990. This year, more than 1,000 kids will get to pick out a bike for Christmas. The giveaway was the dream of Mathis, who wanted to make sure children who are less fortunate had a bike for Christmas.

Law enforcement agencies in Cumberland County are searching for the person or people responsible for putting large rocks on roads that have damaged several cars. It happened on Sandhills and Chicken Foot roads near Hope Mills. Clarissa Bradshaw was driving her Honda with her 2-year-old son when she saw a large rock in the roadway. “Being so low, that could have been really bad,” she said. “I was petrified.”Bradshaw said her son called for her in the backseat.

He served stateside during World War 2 and taught soldiers how to be soldiers. Memory Griffin, a World War II veteran, is about to celebrate his 102nd birthday. He served stateside during the war, dedicating his time to training new recruits to become soldiers. Named after an uncle he never met, Griffin was drafted into the Army after leaving college. Long-time State Representative Marvin Lucas is stepping down. Dec. 31 will be his last day. Lucas is a graduate of Fayetteville State University. After 30 years of public service, he's retiring and his replacement is no stranger to politics. "Twenty four in Raleigh, 23 in Spring Lake as alderman and as mayor," Lucas said. "Then I also did 33 years in the school system, so a total of 80 years all together."Lucas is 82 years old. He didn't start serving when he was 2.
