BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — Kanlaon Volcano on Negros Island continued to show increased activity after four more ash eruptions lasting 17 to 85 minutes occurred yesterday, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology. Phivolcs said the ash eruptions generated grayish plumes that rose 400 meters above the crater and were accompanied by 16 volcanic quakes, including five tremors. MANILA, Philippines — State volcanologists have detected signs of increasing unrest at Kanlaon Volcano on Negros Island after they recorded 15 volcanic earthquakes and voluminous sulfur dioxide emissions in the past few days. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said that as of last Tuesday, the volcano had been emitting 1,712 tons per day of sulfur dioxide and plumes that rose 50 meters and drifted southwest.

MANILA, Philippines — State volcanologists have noted an increase in the seismic activity at Kanlaon Volcano in Negros after they detected 12 volcanic earthquakes in the past 24 hours. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the quakes indicate an ongoing heightened magmatic activity beneath the surface. Aside from the quakes, ashfall events lasting from eight to 56 minutes were also recorded in Kanlaon on Jan. 20.

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — Health officials in Negros Island Region (NIR) have given assurance that the health situation in evacuation centers for those displaced by Kanlaon Volcano is now manageable compared to last week. Razzel Nikka Hao, chief of the Department of Health (DOH)-NIR, said some evacuees contracted ordinary ailments such as colds, cough and fever and were referred to rural health units.
