Eight Bomet County officials were rounded up and questioned by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission on Thursday over alleged embezzlement of Sh1.53 billion. In a sting operation conducted by EACC sleuths drawn from Nairobi and Nakuru, the officers were picked from their homes and driven to the county headquarters for questioning. EACC is pursuing Sh1.5 billion fraudulent payments to companies allegedly owned by unnamed County officials.

There was drama at Bomet Law Courts after Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) officers arrested a Member of County Assembly as he prepared to follow proceedings of a case involving three County Executive Members. Siongiroi Ward Rep Kibet Ngetich was nabbed by officers in plain clothes and detained at the Bomet Central DCI offices. Police are yet to reveal why they arrested Ngetich.

A day after Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok suspended three County Executive Cabinet (CEC) members, he has reached a truce with Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) to end political stand-off. In a closed-door meeting at the county assembly on Monday evening, Prof Barchok sought to iron out differences with MCAs to forestall an impeachment plot.

Last year's boys football champions St Anthony's Kitale were for the first time in 10 years, missing in action during the Rift Valley Secondary School regional championship this year. For the past decade, St Anthony's had made the regional title theirs. This year though, when names of representatives from different counties were being called out, last year's winners were not present. Debutants St Joseph Boys Kitale did the unthinkable. They eliminated their fancied rivals at the county games.

Three members of the Bomet County Executive Committee and four County Public Service Board members are facing ouster after MCAs tabled notices of impeachment in the county assembly Wednesday afternoon. In an unprecedented move, the MCAs prematurely ended their recess to deal with the notices of impeachment. Kapletundo ward MCA Nathan Kibet called for the removal of Finance CEC Andrew Sigei for allegedly violating the Public Finance Management Act and Incompetence.
