The only movie theater on Fort Myers Beach hasn’t shown a film since Hurricane Ian, and now, it might never again. Tuesday, the town’s Local Planning Agency approved plans to turn the old Beach Theater into an entertainment center with a two-level restaurant and bar. Instead of showtimes and popcorn, the space could soon feature outdoor games, live music, a high-end steakhouse and drinks.

A woman's death after her car crashed into a canal off Burnt Store Road in Cape Coral is raising urgent safety lessons about how to survive if your car ends up underwater. Cape Coral residents are mobilizing to recall Mayor John Gunter, expressing dissatisfaction with recent city decisions and gathering thousands of signatures to initiate the process. Kyle L'Hommedieu, who moved to Cape Coral in 2017, is leading the effort, saying, "I chose to make it my home. I started my business here, and I, in my opinion, I've seen it go into a direction that I don't like."He is partnering with local businesses to set up signing stations and going door to door to gather support.
